Resident Evil 3

The 3 stands for how many hours it takes to beat the game.

I'm going back to the PlayStation to pick on another fan-favorite.  Resident Evil 3, following the gripping atmosphere and epic scope of Resident Evil 2, fails to do its predecessor justice in any way.  Outside of running like hell from Tyrant every now and then, there wasn't even anything that stood out about this game.

So actually, the reason Resident Evil 3 is greatly overrated is not because its mechanics are any worse than the previous Resident Evil games, but because it's just a watered down version of them.  You'll beat this turd in around 3-4 hours and then automatically assume that there's another scenario or character for you to play afterwards, and then you'll be horribly disappointed.  Yeah, you can only play as Jill, and unlike Resident Evil 2, there aren't any alternate scenarios.  What the hell?

Aww... he just wants a hug.

You get past that, and then you see that there was nothing added to make up for the lack of content.  The mini-scenarios after you win are even crappier than they were in Resident Evil 2, the tank controls aren't any better, and the dialogue might actually be even worse, back to the days of the original Resident Evil.  There are fewer puzzles, fewer bosses, fewer everything.  And the atmosphere has absolutely nothing going for it, a complete step back from Resident Evil 2.  The worst part is that Tyrant is supposed to make this game great by himself, and everybody raves about his chase scenes.  I still have no fucking idea why, because I never really had a problem getting around him and therefore was never even close to being scared.  So take that out, and why the hell was I supposed to buy this game?  Notice how short this "review" is.  I don't have much to say because there isn't much to this game.

6.5/10

  1. I thought this game was pretty sweet. And I don't know about you, but Resident Evil 2 only took me a few hours to beat as well. All the PS1 RE's are relatively short to be honest. I think Resident Evil 2 is the best of that era, but I also really enjoyed this game as well. I came to this blog because I was looking at the review for Phantom Hourglass(which was both hilarious and informative, just wish I had seen that before I purchased that pile of crap! It has the worst controls and I must admit, it's got to be the worst Zelda game I have ever, EVER played!) and stumbled upon some of the other stuff on here. Not too shabby! Anyway, just to be clear here, it's not Tyrant in Resident Evil 3; Nemesis, it's NEMESIS, hence the title...

  3. Wow, nice blog?! This is stupid and this blog is terrible, ok lets see:

First of all this is an amazing game.

This game a turd?! Have you played RE 4? NOW THAT is a MASSIVE turd.

The game lenght is NOT BAD AT ALL, have you played ANY modern game? Even that piece of sh1t RE 4 looks good in comparison, MANY MANY MANY modern games, you can beat them in shorter time, while you are whining about finishing the game in 3 hours, most modern games can be finished in ONE hour, i dont know why modern games are SO SHORT, i hate that, i miss the good old days of RE and Dino Crisis, and then the games were more interesting too (not all modern games are that bad btw).

another scenario or character for you to play afterwards? Let me guess, since the previous RE games did have 2 characters, now you assumed that this would too? Well, NOPE, its only Jill and Carlos for a brief moment, but who cares? the game is still damn good, at least its not a ONE HOUR LONG game or with 6 levels only.

unlike Resident Evil 2, there aren't any alternate scenarios. What the hell? Again, WHO CARES? the game is fine this way too, but would be nice more scenarios like with the 3 mercenaries, each with their scenario.

Nothing added to make up for the lack of content? Well, for your information, RE 1 and 2 were like this too, only difference is that you can control 2 characters instead of 1, and in the first one you have to get trough THE SAME SCENARIO with the 2 characters, thats not cool in games where you can choose a different character *cough cough* mercenaries 1 and 2 *cough cough*

The mini-scenarios after you win are even crappier than they were in Resident Evil 2, not as bad as RE 4's mercenaries gamemode (havent checked 5's or 6's ones but i bet they are the same).

the tank controls aren't any better, and the dialogue might actually be even worse, back to the days of the original Resident Evil?! First, its getting annoying that everyone is whining about the controls, RE 4 controls are THE SAME, and in fact this controls are better, you can use stairs without pressing the use button and you can do 180 turn. SECOND the dialoge is GREAT, it have continuity, it FEELS like RE, compare this to (again) RE4. and NOW you get A TERRIBLE STORY AND DIALOGUES that actually feel like one of those hollywood crappy cheap action movies.

There are fewer puzzles? THATS GOOD, what would you expecting if you were in a zombie apocalypse? Desolation and destruction and finding a way out? OR LOOKING FOR DAMNED WEIRDASS PUZZLES TO SOLVE AND OPEN HIDDEN PASSAGES AS IF IT WAS A CASTLE OR INDIANA JONES?

And the atmosphere has absolutely nothing going for it, a complete step back from Resident Evil 2? AMAZING ATMOSPHERE THAT FEELS LIKE A HORROR MOVIE WITH EPIC AMAZING MUSIC, yet another thing crap like RE 4 failed miserably to create.

"The worst part is that Tyrant is supposed to make this game great by himself, and everybody raves about his chase scenes. I still have no fucking idea why, because I never really had a problem getting around him and therefore was never even close to being scared." Really, i have bad news for you pal, HORROR GAMES arent for you, you clearly cant immerse yourself in the game, you play RE 3 only to finish it as fast as possible, you treat the monsters (and that tyrant, that IS CALLED NEMESIS BTW) as AI BEINGS rather than ENEMIES THAT WANT TO KILL YOU, really, for your own good, get away from horror games, go play some arcade-y game instead, may i suggest serious sam? its kinda horror-like, maybe that game is more adequate for you.

"there isn't much to this game" again because its not made for you, play another genre, horror is not made for you.

  4. What i cant understand AT ALL, is how everyone says that RE 3, 0, 2, remake or in the worst cases, old RE games are the worst; really, what i believe is that people are becoming more and more stupid and shallow, thats the only explanation i have, everyone attacks ALSO RE 5 and 6 and revelations, thats BULLSHIT, really, you want to know about a REAL BAD RE game, play RE 4: Terrible game, stinky story and something to make you throw up, brainless hollywood-like characters and cliques, exactly like one of those awful predictable action movie, not scary AT ALL with lame enemies (with the exception of a couple of them that are fairly good), lame sequel, kinda good mercenaries game (its bad, but its entertaining and better than the whole game, and not as good as RE 3 mercenaries though), the lenght well its not bad but with such a horrendous game hah no thanks, TERRIBLE ambience (excpet a couple of times), the controls are lame too (angles from the old RE games might be annoying but WHY MUST ALL GAMES HAVE COD LIKE CAMERAS?), lame bosses that even almost show you a SHOOT ME HERE sign with those overly visible points you should shoot to, AWFUL and RIDICULOUS moments (that lord farquad-napolion wannabe, the rasputing wannabe, the INFECTED THAT SELLS YOU THINGS LIKE IF IT WAS FINAL FANTASY, the almighty ada wong that is an expert in EVERYTHING, etc etc etc) in fact A TRUE HORRENDOUS GAME, that is the game that you should attack and not RE 3, all that praise it gets makes me feels sick, THAT is the "evolution" and future of horror games?! WHY THE HELL CANT WE HAVE DINO CRISIS OR OLD RE OR SILENT HILL BACK?! (i dont care about the controls, those are actually frustrating and i prefer silent hill ones), with people saying RE4 is the best of the best, no wonder gaming community is getting more stupid at an alarming rate and games are so bad this days and the MUST HAVE online multiplayer, another turd that ruins videogames.

    1. 100% Agree with you there mate.. people are just complete imbeciles it seems they "hate" the tank controls of old RE series yet love RE 4 which has the EXACT same "Tank controls" just with a 3rd person camera view.

and RE4 needs 3rd person angle because its a SHOOTER.. you need to keep shooting 24/7 unlike in the original games where you were more keen on saving ammo and solving puzzles.

These RE fans are so damn contradictory they hate on RE 5&6 yet praise RE 4 and say RE series needs to "Go back to its roots" no wonder why Capcom cannot understand its own fanbase!

and don't get me wrong i freaking LOVE RE 4 but not as a survival horror game but as an action.. i know what exactly it is and what it isn't... RE always had a Horror B-Movie story its only in RE 4 where it adopted a hollywood style.

  5. "Resident Evil 3, following the gripping atmosphere and epic scope of Resident Evil 2, fails to do its predecessor justice in any way."
I DISAGREE.. RE 2 is massively overrated.. it isn't really all that epic and it is WAY WAY Shorter than RE 1.

" Outside of running like hell from Tyrant every now and then, there wasn't even anything that stood out about this game"
Compared to RE 2 where nothing stands out... oh man i so miss the RE 1.5.

"You get past that, and then you see that there was nothing added to make up for the lack of content"
Are you bloody kiddin me? the 180* turn, dodging and gun powder mixing was AWESOME and gave the game more strategical depth previous games lacked! and the scenarios in RE 2 just re-used most of environments from the leons' campaign so i don't see how lack of an another scenario is a big deal.

"the tank controls aren't any better"
Yes they are if you have NOTICED you could walk on stairs just fine instead of pressing X everytime.

"and the dialogue might actually be even worse, back to the days of the original Resident Evil"
Now you're just hating on RE 3 -_-

"There are fewer puzzles, fewer bosses, fewer everything"
Nope not really.. RE 2 has the same 3 Bosses Mr X,Doctor birkin and G-larvae and i vividly remember RE 3 having more puzzles than RE 2! its just that RE3 has less backtracking&padding which makes the game look shorter compared to RE2 which did have padding and backtracking.

"And the atmosphere has absolutely nothing going for it"
Again ARE YOU BLOODY KIDDING ME MATE? It has the same Raccoon City from RE 2 for Christ's sake! -_-

" I still have no fucking idea why, because I never really had a problem getting around him and therefore was never even close to being scared"
Well good for you sir.. when i first played the game was not "pro" like you i was freaking paranoid of nemesis.
